Federated recommends two proven herbicides in the fight against resistant waterhemp and giant ragweed: Flexstar® (from Syngenta), and Battlestar® (its generic equivalent).

“The reason we use these products is because they do very well managing glyphosate- and ALS-resistant weeds like waterhemp and giant ragweed,” said Bob Marquette, Federated Agronomist at the Albertville location.

On the heels of planned pre-emerge weed control, either of these two post-emerge products can be used by themselves for conventional soybeans or mixed with glyphosate on Roundup Ready® beans. “That’s kinda’ the beauty of the thing,” said Marquette; “they are compatible with both.”

Marquette noted that conventional soybeans can draw a premium at some elevators in Federated’s service area. Flexstar and Battlestar are effective in the battle against the tough weeds in conventional soybeans.

Federated Agronomists and ag professionals across the board have concluded that the battle against resistant weeds requires both pre- and post-emerge herbicide applications. “We’ve been using these two products for a long time [in post applications],” said Marquette, and they help in the fight against the toughest and most resistant weeds.
